Rock climbing is basically a sport in which professional climbers climb up, down or over artificial rock structures or even natural rock formations. The aim is to reach the end of a typically pre-specified route or the top of a generally pre-determined formation without falling off the said structure. This activity can be taken by anyone, young or old, male or female. In general, rock climbing involves the use of heavy weights and other equipment to climb various heights.
There are various kinds of rock climbing. In short, there are two kinds of rock climbing: free climbing and aid climbing. Free climbing can be achieved with the help of ropes. If the climber wishes to ascend up to the top without relying on the ropes, he/she has to take a belay device or a fixed rope.
Aid climbing is also known as climbing in a dangerous or awkward situation. The climber must not rely on the ropes as he/she will be hanging from the structure. A belay device must be used.
The first step towards starting rock climbing is planning. The plan must be decided well so that you do not end up falling off. Make sure that you get the required equipment first before starting your rock climbing adventure. You should also practice climbing before venturing out into the real thing. In other words, you have to practice with the help of a mirror so that you can be sure that you have everything right.
Once you are ready to start your adventure, you have to choose a rock. Choose a rock in your area that you think will give you enough room to move about freely and climb up. This is important since rocks tend to vary in sizes. So, when choosing your rock, it is advisable to choose one that is suitable for you.
Before you actually start climbing, make sure that you take the necessary precautionary measures. Wear safety equipment like helmets and other equipment like a harness. Check your map so that you know the area and the place where you are about to start climbing. Also, have all the equipment that you need handy at the start of your climb, so that you do not waste your time looking for them when you have reached the top.
Once you are done with your preparations, you must now start to take all your safety measures. Climb to the top carefully and slowly. You may also wear gloves while climbing, if you feel uncomfortable with bare hands.
Once you reach the top, you may now use your helmet for this is a safety measure. You can now safely enjoy your climb up the rock face and look down from a great height. When you are done with the climb, just sit back down and relax and enjoy the view.
